poem

by William Waters

Jed meets the Buddha, once again

A five year-old girl said to Jed's girlfriend:

"I have so much to tell you. You are SO beautiful."

That's when Jed tried to tell the girl that she was a Buddha, filled with compassion.

The girl  said:

    "I'm not a Buddha. I'm just a little kid."

Having just then figured out another little piece for himself, Jed said:

    "No! I'm the little kid."

At which point, the little girl, who had just figured out another piece for herself as well, said:

"You're too old to be a little kid."

And the Buddha laughed.
